Malawi

C-Change is working with the Health Education Unit (HEU) of Malawi’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to develop an evidence-based strategy planning process for family planning in Malawi. C-Change also facilitated setting up the Task Force on Family Planning Communication to bring together organizations implementing communication programs for family planning in Malawi. The Task Force includes the Department of Reproductive Health of the MOH, the Family Planning Association of Malawi, Population Services International, C-Change, and others.

Currently, the Task Force is developing guidelines on family planning communication and a facilitator’s guide to assist rolling out the strategy to the district level. These tools will be piloted in September 2010 and implemented in all districts in the coming year.

The goal is to develop a common approach to family planning communication that utilizes resources from the donor community, the private sector, and the communities. Increased uptake of family planning services is the ultimate goal.

In addition, C-Change is providing training to build the capacity of Health Education Unit staff and the staff of NGOs in Malawi to apply social and behavior change communication to their FP planning and programming efforts. For additional information, see the C-Modules--the C-Change SBCC learning package.
